The Telos-Paul Piccone Institute

Call for Funding Proposals

The Telos-Paul Piccone Institute invites applications for a limited number of grants of up to $3,000 for projects that foster and disseminate ideas consistent with our organizational mission, our current intellectual initiatives, or the traditional interests of our circle.

We seek especially to provide subventions for the publication of scholarly articles and books that might not otherwise be made available, especially publications appearing under an open access license by small or independent presses; to support translations in social and political philosophy that have a clear path toward publication; and to enable conferences and discussion groups that put deeply divergent views into conversation and that explore ideas outside the mainstream without fear of censure. We place no restrictions on the place of publication of the supported work or on the background, professional position, or ideological or partisan views of the applicant.

Funds are available for up to $3,000 per project, with preference given to requests for less than the maximum amount, while grants of more than $3,000 may be made available in unusual circumstances. Grants are not intended for travel or research support.

A description of our mission is available here. Our current initiatives concern social and political philosophy in China, postliberal political economy, the role of critical theory in the response within higher education to the Hamas atrocities of October 7, and American political traditions. We also maintain a longstanding engagement with European critical theory.

To apply, please submit a description of your project of approximately 250 words, with the amount requested, on the Google Form available here. Proposals are due by August 1, 2025. Applicants with proposals of potential interest will be contacted by September 1 and asked to provide a more detailed description of their projects.
